Information on presentational training provided to particular Scottish Government advisers in the last five financial years: FOI release

Information requested

For confirmation of all media training, voice coaching, public speaking coaching or presentational training provided to the following Scottish Government advisers in each of the last five full financial years, including 2018/19 to today’s date.

National Clinical Director
The Chief Medical Officer
Deputy Chief Medical Officers
Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland
Deputy Chief Nursing Officer

You asked in each individual case, to confirm which adviser received the training, how much it cost, who the provider was and what was the reason for the training being provided.

Response

National Clinical Director: Professor Jason Leitch has not received any media training, voice coaching, public speaking coaching or presentational training.

The Chief Medical Officer: Professor Sir Gregor Smith has not received any media training, voice coaching, public speaking coaching or presentational training.

Deputy Chief Medical Officers: Professor Nicola Steedman, Professor Graham Ellis, Professor Marion Bain and Professor David Caesar have received media skills training. Training was provided internally by staff from the Directorate of Communications and Ministerial Support. No costs were incurred. Media skills training has been routinely offered to Scottish Government clinicals as part of their ongoing CPD.

Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland: Alex McMahon, Fiona McQueen and Amanda Croft have received media skills training. Training was provided internally by staff from the Directorate of Communications and Ministerial Support. No costs were incurred. Media skills training has been routinely offered to Scottish Government clinicals as part of their ongoing CPD.

Deputy Chief Nursing Officer: Anne Armstrong and Diane Murray have not received any media training, voice coaching, public speaking coaching or presentational training.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because we no longer have access to Former Chief Medical Officer, Professor Catherine Calderwood's mailbox or calendar.
