You have asked for the following information:

How many Accountable Officers in the Scottish Government have been

(a) demoted
(b) sacked
(c) had formal action taken against them

in the period since 2010.

How many Senior Officers in the Scottish Government have been

(a) demoted
(b) sacked
(c) had formal action taken against them

in the period since 2010.

Response

In your request, you asked for information about the Scottish Government. Our response therefore covers the core directorates of the Scottish Government (see Annex A for details). I wrote to you on 9 June 2022 to clarify which grades you were seeking information about (I explained that we do not have an Accountable Officer grade). As I have not received a reply, I have interpreted your request for information about Accountable Officers and Senior Officers to mean Senior Civil Servants. If that interpretation is incorrect and you would like information about other grades, please let me know.

Demotion
You have asked for information about the number of demotions in the period since 2010. I have interpreted demotion to mean moving to a lower grade following formal disciplinary or performance management action. I can confirm that no Senior Civil Servants in the Core Directorates were demoted during the period covered by your request.

Sacked
You have also asked for information about the numbers sacked in the period since 2010. I have interpreted sacked to mean where a member of staff is dismissed following formal disciplinary or performance management action. I can confirm that no Senior Civil Servants in the Core Directorates were sacked during the period covered by your request.

Had Formal Action Taken Against Them
You have also asked for information about the numbers who have had formal action taken against them 2010. I have interpreted formal action to mean disciplinary or formal performance management related procedures. I can confirm that no Senior Civil Servants in the Core Directorates had formal action taken against them during the period covered by your request.
