R100 superfast broadband programme: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

Information regarding progress towards delivery of the Scottish Government’s commitment to ensure that every premises in Scotland could access broadband speeds of at least 30 Megabits per second by 2021. Specifically, when this is projected to be achieved, and to what extent this has been achieved in the various regions of Scotland.

Response

I enclose a copy of the information you requested.

The Scottish Government met its policy commitment to ensure that every home and business could access superfast broadband by the end of 2021. This was achieved through the three strands of activity which form our R100 programme - the £600 million R100 contracts, the R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (R100 SBVS) and continued commercial deployment. Although R100 contract build will continue to deliver beyond the end of 2021, the availability of the R100 SBVS meant that everyone could access a superfast broadband connection.

For the purposes of this request, we have assumed “various regions” to mean the three regional lots within the Reaching 100% (R100) programme, namely Central, South and North. The Central contract is expected to complete build in 2023/24, the South contract is expected to complete build in 2024/25 and the North contract is expected to complete build in 2026/27.

I hope this information proves useful.
