Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

"The cost for the proposed instalment to gents toilets of women’s sanitary items. Initional costs and projected running costs".

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

The Scottish Government introduced sanitary products into some male and gender-neutral toilets in February 2019 which resulted in both fixed and variable costs.

The fixed costs are primarily associated with the provision of hygiene bins within male toilets and these are shown in the table below:

Period Fixed cost (£)
February 2019 - March 2019 (two months) 304.20
April 2019 - March 2020 (twelve months) 1,491.52
April 2020 - March 2021 (twelve months) 1,370.88
April 2021 - October 2021 (seven months) 799.68

The variable costs are those associated with the replenishment of consumables. When replenishing sanitary consumables our contractor does not record the type of toilet facility. Therefore, in accordance with Section 17(1) - information not held - I am advising you that I am unable to provide the level of Scottish Government spend on sanitary consumables in male toilets. While our intention is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not hold the information you have requested.
