Information requested

1) How many single leisure mooring applications have you processed in the last 5 years ( by year) on the west coast of Scotland from the Mull of Kintyre to Ardnamurcan Point?
2) Of these, how many did you receive objections to?
3) How many non licenced single use leisure moorings have you identified over the last 5 years (by year) and how many has action been taken against resulting in the removal of the mooring through:

  • action by the layer
  • legal proceedings

2. There were no objections received to any of the four single leisure mooring applications processed by Marine Scotland as identified in point 1 of our response above.

3. Marine Scotland have only identified one unlicensed single use leisure mooring over the last 5 years. The table below shows this information by year:

a) The answer to how many of the above has action been taken against resulting in the removal of the mooring through action by the layer* is: none. The appropriate marine licence required was applied for retrospectively, and granted, and so the removal of the mooring was not necessary.

*In our response we have interpreted “layer” to mean the person who was responsible for applying for a Marine licence under section 21(1) of the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010: “To deposit any substance or object within the Scottish marine area, either in the sea or on or under the seabed, from any of the following:

  •  a vehicle, vessel, aircraft or marine structure,
  •  a container floating in the sea, or
  •  a structure on land constructed or adapted wholly or mainly for the purpose of depositing solids in the sea. 

b) The answer to how many of the above has action been taken against resulting in the removal of the mooring through legal proceedings is also: none.
