You asked for WTE numbers of consultant radiologists in Scotland, both funded and filled posts, for each of the past 10 years.

Response

Data on the consultant radiologist (incl. director level consultants) establishment and numbers of staff in post across NHSScotland, at September of each of the last 10 years, is set out as follows.

The 49.5% increase in consultant radiologists mentioned in the Scottish Government Recovery and Redesign Cancer Services Action Plan correlates with increases between September 2006 and June 2020 (223.53 WTE at September 2006 to 334.25 at June 2020).

The Action Plan is currently being updated to use the latest available figure (345.0 WTE consultant radiologists at September 2020) and to clarify the timelines to which the data refers:

“Between September 2006 and September 2020, we have seen an 89.6% increase in consultant oncologists and we’ve increased consultant radiologists by 54.4%”.
