Response

Scotland House London is run on a collaborative model between the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise (including Scottish Development International), VisitScotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise - the four Partners.

The facility aims to support Scotland’s strategic objectives around Reputation, Trade, Research and Innovation, Investment, and Protecting Scotland’s Interests. That includes developing trade and investment links; strengthening government to government relations, with the UK Government and with other countries through London’s diplomatic missions; and facilitating collaboration on economic, academic and innovation projects. It also has a co-working space, and provides networking opportunities for Scottish businesses, public sector organisations and academic institutions in London via the Scotland House London membership scheme. The facility houses the Scottish Government and Scottish Development International teams that are based in London.

A complete list of both associate and enterprise members for the years 2018 – 2020 is enclosed at Annex A. To confirm, no Scotland House members have formally cancelled their membership.

As with every sector, the impact of COVID-19 and the restrictions in its aftermath, has impacted Scotland House London’s membership base. Given the social distancing requirements and the safety of its members, the facility has been closed since the announcement of the lockdown in March 2020.

With in-person events on hold, members have been migrated to a complimentary online membership scheme and all the member events and those curated by Scotland House London are being served on the digital platform. A recent member connect programme, through phone calls and emails, suggest
positive levels of engagement from members with a high likelihood of them returning once the facility is reopened.

In addition, to support the Scottish Government response, a number of Scotland House London staff were redeployed to COVID priority policy areas, including staff with overall responsibility for the membership programme. With this in mind, it was agreed to pause membership recruitment activity and focus on supporting the wellbeing of existing Scotland House members. This will be kept under review as we transition through and out of the COVID crisis.
