Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked for:

  • How many flights in total were affected at Sumburgh Airport as a result of the recent work to rule industrial action from Highlands and Islands Airport Ltd’s air traffic controllers?
  • What was the financial impact of industrial action - both work to rule and strikes - at Sumburgh Airport during the duration of the recently ended air traffic controller pay dispute?

Response

The answers to your questions are:

1. How many flights in total were affected at Sumburgh Airport as a result of the recent work to rule industrial action from Highlands and Islands Airport Ltd’s air traffic controllers?

I enclose a copy of the information you requested. The enclosed spreadsheet, previously provided to us by Highlands and Islands Airports Limited (HIAL), outlines the impact on individual flights relating to the industrial action. We’re not aware of any flights being impacted other than those included in the spreadsheet.

2. What was the financial impact of industrial action - both work to rule and strikes - at Sumburgh Airport during the duration of the recently ended air traffic controller pay dispute?

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. However, you may wish to contact HIAL at info@hial.co.uk who may be able to help you. The reasons why we don’t have the information are explained in the Annex to this letter.

Annex - Reasons for not providing information
The Scottish Government does not have the information

Section 17(1) of FOISA (information not held) requires the Scottish Government to notify you if it does not have the information you requested. The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because the financial information provided to us by HIAL is at a company rather than airport level. In addition, the financial information provided to us by HIAL outlines the overall position over a given period and does not provide a breakdown relating to specific events.

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
