Head of Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) complaints received: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

AS FURTHER FOI QUERY IS THERE PERHAPS A RECORD OF HOW MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING A HEAD (WHETHER PERMANENT OR INTERIM) OF NICS HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN FORMALLY RECEIVED BY THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT WITH A RECORD BEING KEPT OF SUCH RECEIPT?
IN THE EVENT THAT THERE ARE ANY AT ALL, EVEN JUST ONE, ON A MINOR MATTER OF LITTLE IMPORTANCE, EVEN YEARS AGO, DO PLEASE LET ME KNOW?

Response

The Scottish Government has received one request from the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) asking the Scottish Government Permanent Secretary to consider a complaint against the Head of NICS in accordance with the NICS Top Management Complaints procedure. The request was received in July 2018. However the complaint was not investigated because it was established that it related to a prior issue for which the existing appeal mechanism had not been completed.
You may wish to be aware that the Scottish Government has published information in relation to that complaint. That response is published at: https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-19-00707/.
