City Deal money paid out to local authority by Scottish Government: FOI release

You asked for: a breakdown of the amount of money paid by the Scottish Government to local councils by year and local authorities, as well as the number of planned projects which have been completed.

The information provided below relates to City Deal money incurred by the four deals that are in delivery and paid out by the Scottish Government. You will want to note that the UK Government's funding for deals is additional to the block grant provided to the Scottish Government.  The UK Government contribution to City Deals is passed to the Scottish Government and we manage the overall payment and reimbursement of agreed funding in line with the Scottish Public Finance Manual. The answer to your question is:

1. The total funding paid specifically to Local Councils as Lead Authority on behalf of a partnership for Scottish City Region Deals to 30 September 2019 is £276 million as detailed in Annex A.  This relates to both Scottish Government and UK Government funding but excludes funding utilised for transport projects which are part of the deal but where Transport Scotland is the initial recipient of the funding and progress the works. It might also be useful if I explain that the UK Government provides their contribution on a flat profile basis to the Scottish Government block grant, after which the Scottish Government release the funding in arrears based on evidence of spend.
2. The number of planned projects completed to date is 11.
