Cycling Walking Safer Streets (CWSS) funding breakdown: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked for:

Figures on the amount of funding awarded to each local authority in Scotland for active travel initiatives in each of the last five years, including this year to date (i.e. including the most recent awards of funding from Places for Everyone/Community Links Plus). This could include funding for developing proposals, as well as for construction etc. A breakdown of the funding (e.g. planning vs. construction) would be helpful.

With a later clarification provided:

The funding awarded for all initiatives within each local authority area, as opposed to just funding to local authorities themselves.

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested.

However, you may wish to contact the Scottish Government’s delivery partner organisations who may be able to help you with information on the funds and projects that they administer on our behalf:

While these organisations should be able to help you with your request, they are not subject to FOISA and are not legally bound to respond.

The reasons why we don’t have the information are explained in the Annex to this letter.

Reasons for not providing information - Annex
The Scottish Government does not have the information

Section 17(1) of FOISA (information not held) requires the Scottish Government to notify you if it does not have the information you requested.

The Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have asked for because, while it receives regular reports on the performance of delivery organisation funds and projects, these reports do not contain an overview of funding awarded by local authority area.

When the Scottish Government requires detailed information on active travel project funding within local authority area, a request is made to delivery organisations for this information.

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
