Information requested

Records of communications between Scottish Government (Scottish Office) and Glasgow University, Professor Murdoch Baxter and the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre between 25 April 1986 and 31 January 1993. Additionally asked for public statements and press releases, records of internal Scottish Government communications relating to the environment and records or information relating to money awarded by the Scottish Government to the Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre between 1986-1994.

Response

We have undertaken a search of our legacy paper records database based on terms which you provided within your request and have identified files which may be within the scope of your request in the Annex to this letter.
While our aim is to provide information wherever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information that you have requested because some of these files (as noted in the Annex) have been routinely destroyed, in accordance with our standard records management practice, before the date of your request. Files are reviewed at regular intervals during their lifetime and are closed, archived pending further review, destroyed or passed to National Records of Scotland (NRS) – usually at 5, 10, 15 year intervals from the date of the last record within the file.We do not hold any electronic records or records of telephone and/or verbal communications for the topics you seek.

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
