General Practice (GP) surgeries switching their IT systems framework: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked for a breakdown of General Practice (GP) surgeries switching their IT system following the announcement of a new framework contract to supply IT software to GPs across NHSScotland.

Response

As you are aware, NHSScotland has procured a Multi-Supplier Framework with EMIS, Microtest and Vision, with NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) managing the Call-Off Contracts on behalf of Health Boards.

The three successful suppliers are now developing their systems to meet the IT requirements of Scottish GPs and become accredited systems approved for use in Scotland. GPs will then be able to select the clinical IT system most appropriate for their needs from those which have been approved. Therefore, once these new IT systems have successfully passed Accreditation Testing, it will be possible for GPs to select the new systems through a mini competition process. Road shows will be organised to demonstrate the new GP IT systems to assist Practices in making their selection during mini competitions. This is likely to be from February 2020 onwards. You can follow progress of the GP IT reprovisiong project at: https://www.gpit.scot.nhs.uk/.
