Non-British Sign Language professionals supply: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

You asked:

1). Does a particular agency hold a contract with the Scottish Government as to supply of communication professionals for non BSL users (ie, Lipspeakers, Electronic Notetakers) at Scottish Government events, meetings, etc?

2). If so, what agency is it?

3). What qualification and registration requirements are made of the non BSL related communication professionals used?

4). On how many occasions have Lipspeakers and Electronic Notetakers been provided for Scottish Government events since 2014?

Response

In relation to question numbers 1-3, there is no framework in place for the supply of non-BSL communication support professionals. As such, there is no contract in place with any particular agency. We would expect good practice to be followed when bookings are required on an ad hoc basis by using appropriately qualified and registered professionals.

For question 4, the Scottish Government does not collect this information centrally. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
