Suicide rates in Scotland and Ayrshire from 2010 – 2019: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Suicide rates in both Scotland and Ayrshire. In particular, I would like to see the death rates of suicides per year from 2010 – 2019.

Response

Statistics on death from suicide in Scotland are publically available from the National Records of Scotland’s Probable Suicides publication, which was last published in June 2018. You can download the data from the following link: https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/statistics-and-data/statistics/statistics-by-theme/vital-events/deaths/suicides/list-of-tables-and-chart. I have attached the relevant spreadsheets for convenience.

Please note the following:

  • Data is available at Health Board level for Ayrshire and Arran. There is also data for East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire at Local Authority level.
  • The latest published figures are for 2017. Figures for 2018 will be available on 26 June 2019. Data for the full year of 2019 won’t be available till mid-2020.
