Newspaper subscriptions within Scottish Government: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Details of any Scottish Government payments on newspaper subscriptions in the last three years, including a full breakdown of the costs, publication, quantity and date purchased.

Response

The Scottish Government subscribes to a range of newspapers for communication and research purposes. We share copies of individual newspapers across offices when practical.

The Library administers the Scottish Government Newspaper Framework Contract and the information contained in the spreadsheets is valid and accurate according to our records. The Library can only guarantee the spend for those newspapers which are bought via the Newspaper Framework contract. The majority of newspapers received via the Newspaper Framework contract are paper copies. There are a few online copies of newspapers which we have included.

As you will be aware newspaper orders change over the years so the spreadsheets for the past 3 years (36 months) reflect those changes. Therefore, some newspapers do not appear for some months or years accordingly.

The following information may provide a useful background regarding newspaper spend in previous years which has been made public as a response to specific FOI requests.

Spending on all newspapers was:

£158,982.38 in FY 2011-12

£128,280.32 in FY 2012-13
