Information requested

Your criminal data shows “Perverting the Couse Of Justice” as being included with “Crimes Against Public Justice” but does not show the figures for “Perverting The Course Of Justice” separately. I would like to know please the separate recorded crime figures for “Perverting The Course Of Justice”, for each year from 1990 to 2018. i.e. the yearly figure for 1990, the yearly figure for 1991 etc. If possible could these results be shown in a table format for each year. Also if you could provide a web link(s) of where you got the information from.

Response

The information you have requested is provided in the two tables below. This is drawn from the recorded crime dataset. As you have noted, aggregate figures are presented in the annual Recorded Crime in Scotland National Statistics within the ‘Crimes against public justice’ category.

From 1995-96 onwards, recorded crime figures have been presented by financial year. Therefore, the information requested has been provided in two separate tables below.

Table 1 shows the number of ‘Defeat/Pervert the Course/Ends of Justice’ crimes recorded by the police in Scotland between 1990 and 1994.

Table 2 shows the number of ‘Defeat/Pervert the Course/Ends of Justice’ crimes recorded by the police in Scotland between 1995-96 and 2017-18.

In the final quarter of 1994-95 (i.e. January to March 1995) the police recorded 612 ‘Defeat/Pervert the Course/Ends of Justice’ crimes.
