Zero-hour contracts, temporary contracts and earnings less than Scottish median: FOI release

1. What is the number and percentage of a) men and b) women currently employed in the Scottish Government who work under zero-hours contracts between April 2011 to April 2018. Please break down the information by year.
2. What is the average number of hours that a) men and b) women currently employed in the Scottish Government who work under zero-hours contracts a) per week b) per month.
3. What is the number and percentage of a) men and b) women currently employed in the Scottish Government who work under temporary contracts between April 2011 to April 2018. Please break down the information by year.
4. What is the number and percentage of a) men and b) women currently employed in the Scottish Government who earned and earn less than the Scottish median annual wage between April 2011 to April 2018.  Please break down the information by year.

In answer to questions 1 and 2, the Scottish Government, as defined on the Scottish Government website (/about/how-government-is-run/directorates), does not employ anyone on zero hours contracts.

Regarding questions 3 and 4 you clarified that the information required relates to employment in each of the years mentioned, rather than staff currently employed who had been in employment throughout the period.  In answering these questions, we have taken relevant data as at 30 April in each of the requested years. The answers are detailed in the tables at Annex A.
