Date received: 27 April 2018
Date responded: 9 May 2018

Information requested

A list of all Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers who have resigned from their posts in government, from 1999-present, and what reasons they gave for having done so.

Response

I enclose a copy of the information you requested.

Some of this information is available from external sources, such as the BBC or Scottish Parliament websites, or from the Scottish Government's own website. Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. In this case, however, we have, where relevant, supplied external links to the information you requested. If you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the websites listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

The list below includes the First Minister, Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers. Please note that, before 2007, Cabinet Secretaries and Ministers were known as Ministers and Deputy Ministers, respectively.

We have not listed Ministers who left office following general elections to the Scottish Parliament (in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2016). We have, however, included those who demitted office as a result of a First Minister's decision to reshuffle his or her Ministerial team during a Parliamentary session.
