FOI reference: FOI/18/00370
Date received: 7 February 2018
Date responded: 6 March 2018
Information requested
Ascertain why the levels of congestion on the M8 have been so bad eastbound in the evening this winter. Also any reports or evaluation carried out on congestion on the M8 in the last 3 years and the causes, including the design of the M8 M74 junction would also be of interest.
To which you clarified the location of your request as;
"I meant between junction 26 and 19."
Response
The included graphical representation of average speeds has been extracted from our analytics software which has been configured specifically to cover the route and dates you have requested. This is available at Annex A. I have excluded weekends from the analysis assuming you are looking for weekday information, further to this we have included the years 2015 and 2016 also for the purposes of comparison.
The analysis shows no significant changes in the traffic patterns, with the average speeds, and peak times being broadly aligned.
In relation to reports on the design of the M8 M74 junction, please see link to the M74 Completion Scheme: One Year After Opening Evaluation Report
