Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

FOI reference: FOI/18/00163
Date received: 21 January 2018
Date responded: 23 January 2018

Information requested

The Scottish Government's definition of "fairness" as applied to its policies and intentions.

Response

The Scottish Government has not formally outlined a definition of 'fairness', as this is subject to the lens, or context, to which it is attributed. The specific considerations are explored further within the attributable policy.

Within the Fairer Scotland Action Plan a fairer Scotland was described as "one with low levels of poverty and inequality, genuine equality of opportunity, stronger life chances, and support for all those who need it."
