Personal injury accident statistics for A828 and A82: EIR release

Information requested

The A82 and the A828 are both notorious for "bad" drivers going too fast and taking risks. Is it possible for you to send me the most recent crash accident data from 2017? We are interested in one or all of the following: number of accidents and the number of casualties. I notice, for example, that the numbers of those hurt on the A82 fell in 2015 (26) but rose again in 2016 to 44. We are interested in comparing and contrasting those numbers and talking about what precautions drivers should take.

As the information you have requested is 'environmental information' for the purposes of the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs), we are required to deal with your request under those Regulations. We are applying the exemption at section 39(2) of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA), so that we do not also have to deal with your request under FOISA.

This exemption is subject to the 'public interest test'. Therefore, taking account of all the circumstances of this case, we have considered if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption. We have found that, on balance, the public interest lies in favour of upholding the exemption, because there is no public interest in dealing with the same request under two different regimes. This is essentially a technical point and has no material effect on the outcome of your request.

In response to your request, please see below Personal Injury Accident Statistics for the A828 and the A82. In addition to the accident statistics provided below we also hold more up to date information on fatal accidents and are aware that there has been one fatal accident on the A82 between 50m North of its junction with the A828 and Inverness which occurred after the latest available date in the system. This accident occurred on 25 October 2017 at Glen Gloy near The Heathers Guest House.
