Information requested
I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Scotland Act 2002 (FOISA):
- The estimated cost of your current repair backlog for trains.
- The estimated annual cost of maintaining trains in their current condition.
- The estimated cost of your current repair backlog for train stations.
- The estimated annual cost of maintaining train stations in their current condition.
- The estimated cost of your current repair backlog for ferries.
- The estimated annual cost of maintaining ferries in their current condition.
- The estimated cost of your current repair backlog for ferry ports and harbours.
- The estimated annual cost of maintaining ferry ports and harbours in their current condition.
- The estimated cost of your current repair backlog for other Transport Scotland run vehicles (excluding ferries and trains), broken down by vehicle type.
- The estimated annual cost of maintaining other Transport Scotland run vehicles (excluding ferries and trains), broken down by vehicle type, in their current condition.

It is acknowledged that the CalMac fleet is ageing and we are very much aware that, additional resources are needed to keep the vessels running so our island communities stay connected.
That is why in 2018 we established a Resilience Fund to invest in ferry services to ensure future reliability and availability of our vessels, this money is in addition to the annual expenditure for maintenance and repairs.
The fund is used to upgrade or replace key systems and equipment on the vessels before they reach the end of their operational life or become obsolete.
From financial year 2018/19 to 2022/23, almost £17.3m has been invested, averaging around £3.5m per financial year as shown in the attached table.
Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd is responsible for governance of this funding with CalMac Ferries Ltd leading on implementation of the works required.
