The Organisational Duty of Candour is a statutory (legal) duty on Scottish organisations providing health and social care to be open and honest when something goes wrong that is not related to the course of the condition for which the person is receiving care.

When the Duty of Candour procedure is being followed, this leaflet can be given to the patient, service user or person acting on their acting on their behalf. It explains what to expect from the process and aims to help them understand what will happen during the duty of candour procedure. Information is also provided for contacts of further support within organisations.
