Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Information requested
For every station in the Highland Council and Moray council areas, please could you send me the latest detailed SQUIRE survey data?
Response
Please find information you requested in the attached Highland Council and Moray SQUIRE reports data, April – June 2023.
The SQUIRE regime enables ScotRail to rectify issues found on the network and as such, it plays a fundamental role in Scottish Government’s efforts to improve the passenger experience.
Our aim is for the publicly owned ScotRail to be a success and that means improving the passenger experience. In the latest Transport Focus passenger satisfaction survey, 90% of customers were satisfied with their journey with ScotRail and results have been consistently higher than the UK average.
The SQUIRE regime is one of the toughest performance regimes in the UK, with many of the target levels set at 90% or higher. ScotRail is required to address any issues identified during inspections as quickly as possible.
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because exemption under Section 38(1)(b) (personal information) of FOISA applies to that information.
The reasons why this exemption applies are explained below:-
Section 38(1)(b) – Personal data of a third party
An exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA (personal information) applies to some of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, i.e. names of SQUIRE inspectors, and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
