Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested.

Some of the information you have requested is available from the Scottish Government and statsistics.gov.scot websites (see details below). Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website(s) listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. The reasons why we don't have the information are explained below.

  1. Recorded crime statistics for year ending September 2018 to September 2022 can be found in Table 1 of Recorded Crime in Scotland: year ending September 2022 - gov.scot (www.gov.scot). If required offences can be found in Table 2.

Data for year ending September 2014 to Year ending September 2017 can be found in the attached spreadsheet. Please note that this data is not a perfect like for like match with the data provided above, as it was not extracted at an equivalent time following the end of the reporting year. However, we believe the impact this will have on any comparisons will be minor.

Data is not held for year ending September 2013. This is due to the fact that this reporting year includes data from legacy police forces (before Police Scotland was formed). The way data was supplied by legacy police forces means that we can only supply pre April 2013 data on a financial year (year ending March) basis.
  2. Recorded crime statistics for year ending June 2018 to June 2022 can be found in Table 1 of Recorded Crime in Scotland: year ending June 2022 - gov.scot (www.gov.scot). If required offences can be found in Table 2.
