Commercial fishery for razor clams using electric current gear - consultation: strategic environmental assessment report

An environment report following strategic environmental assessment of consultation outcomes for the consultation on establishing a commercial fishery for razor clams using electric current.

1. Introduction

The subject of this report is a consultation seeking views on the future status of fishing for razor clams in Scottish inshore waters. The Scottish Government has operated a scientific trial since 2018 and considers the evidence base gathered during this trial to be sufficient to now make a decision, informed by consultation, on whether to establish a commercial fishery. Fishing is carried out with electric current gear, which stimulates razor clams to emerge from their burrows. Divers following the gear then hand gather these clams.
