Cervical Cancer elimination strategy: action plan

An action plan outlining our planned steps to achieving cervical cancer elimination by 2040.

Language and context

In Scotland, screening is offered to eligible women, and eligible people with a cervix. For brevity, this report refers only to screening women; however, it will remain an important part of our work to ensure that trans men receive screening for which they are eligible.

The wording in the action plan around the HPV vaccine also focuses on women and girls, in line with the World Health organisation targets. However, we know that improving HPV uptake among boys and eligible men not only protects them from HPV-related cancers but also reduces transmission across the wider population, strengthens protection for women and contributes towards cervical cancer elimination. It is our intention that the vaccine interventions set out in the plan should also make it easier for boys and eligible men to take up the vaccine.
