A full list of capital projects supported under the Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme (LCITP).

The Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Programme (LCITP), supported by the European Regional Development Funding (ERDF), aimed to accelerate the development and delivery of low-carbon infrastructure projects across Scotland.

Micro-energy system consisting of solar, battery and EV Charging.



Fair Isle Unified Low Carbon, Electricity Storage and Generation Project

Fair Isle Electricity Company, Scottish Water, Fair Isle Bird Observatory, Shetland Islands Council, The National Trust Scotland


The project installed a combination of wind turbines, solar arrays and battery storage. This is providing the Island with renewable, stable, 24 hour power for the first time.



Tidal Energy Storage System

Nova Innovation


Integration of Shetland tidal array with Tesla battery storage delivering the world’s first grid-connected ‘baseload’ tidal power station.



Tackling Fuel Poverty & Grid Balancing with Smart Electric Storage Heat

The project installed VCharge smart technology units to existing storage heaters, which allowed heaters to be charged at different times based upon resident requirements.



Glenrothes Energy Network

The project constructed a heat network in Glenrothes, utilising the heat loss from the RWE Biomass CHP which had not previously been utilised.



Stirling Renewable Heat Demonstration Project

Stirling Council,

Scottish Water Horizons


Heat from waste water is harvested using a waste water heat recovery system. The system utilises electricity generated from the previously existing AD plant.



Queens Quay and Clydebank Heating Network

West Dunbartonshire Council


The project is using water source heat pumps in the River Clyde to create a heat network serving buildings at the Queens Quay development in Clydebank.



Low Carbon District Energy Hub

Dundee City Council, Sportscotland, Leisure and Culture Dundee


A ground source heat pump and solar thermal array provides heat to the newly constructed Regional Performance Centre for Sport.



Aqualibrium - Campbeltown

SHARC, Scottish Water Horizons


The project retrofitted the leisure centre at Campbeltown to utilise heat recovered from waste water.



Clyde Gateway Heat



Water source heat pumps providing heat for buildings using waste water from the sewage network.

Dundee and Angus Residual Waste Combined Heat and Power Project

Michelin Tyres, MVV Environmental


The project installed a steam connection from the Energy from Waste plant to the Michelin factory.



Aviva Low Carbon Infrastructure Project


Pitheavlis Building,


Project installed solar PV, battery storage and electric vehicle chargers at the Aviva office in Perth.



Millerhill Low Carbon District Heating Project

Midlothian Council


The project will create a low carbon heat network that serves the town of Shawfair, utilising heat from the Millerhill Energy from Waste plant.



Smart Solar and Storage Project

Aberdeenshire Council, Keir, Mitie Property Management Ltd, Everwarm Ltd, Bancon

Various locations within the Aberdeenshire Council area

A battery, smart technology and PV will be installed at 500 Houses which will demonstrate generation, storage and grid services across a large housing stock as a route to reducing carbon emissions.



Scotland Kickstarter High-Power Electric Vehicle Charging Station with Solar Generation Project

The project installed and operates a network of electric vehicle charging stations with solar generation.



Glen Mhor Heat Network

Glen Mhor Hotel Limited


The project will use a wet well and water source heat pump to provide heat to the Glen Mhor hotel and other connected buildings.

Torry Heat Network, Phase 1

Aberdeen City Council


The Torry Heat Network will supply heat from the Tullos Energy from Waste Plant to the Tullos School and social housing.

The project uses waste heat from a nearby wastewater treatment centre with a heat pump system to provide heat via a heat network to the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland development.

Generation 5 – Early Years Nursery Programme

4 locations across Glasgow

The project installs ASHP, solar PV and rainwater harversting in 4 new build nurseries in Glasgow.

The project will install air source heat pumps, zoning controls, thermal efficiency measures and electric vehicle charging points.

Trees For Life

Dundreggan Estate, Forres

The project will decarbonise the estate’s heat and electricity consumption by commissioning air source heat pumps, solar PV, batteries and electric vehicle charging points as well as installing energy efficiency measures.

The Clydeside Initiative for Arts Ltd

SWG3, Glasgow, G3 8QG

BODYHEAT will use an integrated energy system to utilise the heat produced by event goers at arts venue SWG3 using ground source heat pumps and thermal storage.

Edinburgh Airport Low Carbon Energy System

The Edinburgh Airport Low Carbon Energy System will reduce the carbon footprint of the airport by commissioning an integrated energy system consisting of 9.9 MW of solar PV, 3.7 MW electric battery storage and 40 electric vehicle charging points.

Scottish Power Energy Networks will implement air source heat pumps, thermal storage and smart controllers in 150 rural or semi-rural homes across 3 council areas.



Replacement ASHP Heating Project

Maryhill Housing Association

Maryhill, Glasgow, G20

The project will install air source heat pump replacement heating systems at 11 mini multi housing blocks owned by Maryhill Housing Association.

Carron Estate ASHP Heat Network Project

NG Homes


The project will install an air source heat pump system into six high rise blocks in Springburn with each building having its own heat generation plant and new wet central heating system.

The project will install an integrated energy system comprising of an anaerobic digestion plant, biogas gas engine, peak demand biogas boiler, type 2 electric vehicle charging, electrical storage and grid export.

Firbush Outdoor Centre Water Source Heat Pump Project

A water source heat pump will be installed within a new purpose built plant room, using heat from Loch Tay. This will serve new wet heating systems and provide domestic hot water to the main accommodation building.

The project will install EV charging points, solar PV and battery storage at the Scottish Borders Council HQ site.



Blar Mhor ASHP Housing Development Project

The Highland Council

Fort William,

The project will install air source heat pump heating systems at 117 new build social housing properties in Fort William to provide low carbon heating and hot water.

The project will demonstrate an integrated energy system incorporating an off-site anaerobic digestion system, combined heat and power plant and on-site smart grid.



Mackie’s Limited Low Carbon Biomass/Absorption Chilling Refrigeration System Project


Westertown, Aberdeenshire, AB51

This project developed and installed a low carbon, energy efficient refrigeration system which uses natural refrigeration gas (ammonia) and heat from a sustainable woodchip biomass plant.

Expansion of Torry Heat Network Phase 1 (funded by LCITP) using waste heat from an Energy from Waste plant at Tullos.



Zero Carbon Affordable Homes

The project will install a shared ground loop array heating system with ground source heat pumps and high efficiency heat batteries serving 10 affordable flats and 4 houses.

The project will install two water source heat pumps which will supply low carbon heat via a heat network to the Glasgow Harbour Development.



Halo Kilmarnock

A combination of a shared ground array with ground source heat pumps; air source heat pumps; solar PV and smart controls.



Granton Waterfront Western Villages

City of Edinburgh Council

Granton Waterfront Development

District heating system using air and water source heat pumps; solar PV, energy efficiency improvements and enhanced utilities with smart controls for metering and billing.
