Rain warning response
Ministers urge flood alert vigilance.
Ministers have met to discuss the amber rain warning and flooding alerts affecting parts of Scotland.
A meeting of the Scottish Government Resilience Room was held to hear from the Met Office, Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), blue light services and Transport Scotland on current impacts and flood forecasts.
Seven flood alerts and 28 flood warnings are currently in force, covering parts of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, Dundee and Angus, Orkney, the Scottish Borders and Tayside.
Justice Secretary Angela Constance chaired the meeting. Ms Constance said:
“While the amber rain warning is set to expire at 6pm, the Met Office is forecasting continued heavy rain in many parts of Scotland over the coming days, causing potential disruption to travel and residents.
“Although no significant issues have been reported we are closely monitoring rivers, many of which will peak later today, and our multi-agency response teams stand ready and prepared to respond to any flooding incidents.
“I would urge people to pay attention to flood alerts, weather forecasts and to consider travel updates in their area.”
