Johne’s Disease Working Group
Overview
This group was set up in 2024 to take a collaborative approach to understanding the barriers to tackling Johne’s Disease, as well as looking at what practical steps can be taken to reduce its prevalence.
It is led by industry and supported by the Scottish Government, who operate as the secretariat.
The group aims to:
- create and maintain better communication by clarifying and improving messaging on the disease and the results from diagnostic testing as well as implementing a control programme designed for individual farmers
- work towards a national programme to tackle the disease in suckler cows, working with industry to determine what would be beneficial to farmers, wholesale and retail sectors
- support available surveillance programmes to provide an accurate overview of its prevalence in Scotland
