This bulletin presents statistics on the number of firearm and shotgun certificates on issue under the Firearms Act 1968 (as amended), covering certificates issued by the police in Scotland over the last ten years. The bulletin also provides information on the number of registered firearm dealers, visitor permits and European Firearms Passes (EFPs) issued.
Following publication of the 2014-15 Official Statistics on Firearm Certificates, responsibility for subsequent publications of this data transferred from the Scottish Government to Police Scotland.
Police Scotland have now taken responsibility for reporting of these statistics. They do this through an annual statistical publication on Firearms Licensing, which can be accessed from their Firearms and Explosives Licensing page.
Users are advised to direct any future queries for statistical information on Firearm Certificates to Police Scotland via their contact us form at the following link, where requests will get forwarded to the relevant analytical team.
