Colin Cook has been Director of Economic Development since 2021.

Responsibilities

The Director of Economic Development is responsible for developing Scotland’s economy. Responsibilities include creating the right culture for businesses to flourish and providing practical support to promoting Scotland internationally to boost trade and investment.

Biography

Prior to his current role, Colin spent over four years as Director of Digital, responsible for delivering Scotland's national digital strategy, including work on the digital transformation of the public sector and public services, Scotland's data strategy, digital connectivity and the IT shared services used by up to 16,000 public servants in Scotland.

He started his career in marketing within the packaging and chemical industries, going on to become Marketing Director of Royal Mail and Assistant to the Chairman and Chief Executive of The Post Office. Colin joined the Scottish Government in 2003 and has held deputy director roles in Public Health, and Healthcare Strategy and Planning.

Colin is a Vice Chairman of the Royal Caledonian Education Trust and a former trustee of The Poppy Factory.
