An average year for the overall cereal harvest
Total cereal production decreased by 2% to just under 3.1 million tonnes in 2023 compared to 2022. The result is just above the ten-year average of 3.0 million tonnes.
Weather conditions in 2023 led to one of the more challenging harvests in recent years. Overall cereal production decreased despite a small increase in planted area.
The total cereal yield of 7.2 tonnes per hectare remained above the average of 6.9 tonnes per hectare over the last 10 years. However, yields decreased by 6% compared to the record high of 2022.
