The Food for Thought Education Fund was originally launched in May 2013 at Castleview Primary School in Edinburgh. The Fund will help pupils learn about all aspects of food, supporting food education related projects that involve schools in partnerships with industry / business.
The initiative has made great strides towards embedding food in the curriculum by developing and distributing a wide range of resources, organising and holding teacher training events or other learning events and ultimately aiding teachers to feel more confident towards using food as a context for learning.
It has seen a fantastic range of innovative projects: many schools creating growing gardens, enhanced knowledge around seasonality, outdoor learning, physical activity, growing food, harvesting, practical cooking experiences, sharing food as a community, understanding issues around local food and sustainability etc etc.
And the fund is also highlighting the many and varied career options available in our booming food and drink sector – where there are great opportunities for our young people.
More information on the fund, including guidelines and application forms can be accessed from the Education Scotland Website.
