Details of specialism
I am an ocean modeller with a wide interest in the physical oceanography of shelf sea areas. My current research involves developing and validating numerical hydrodynamic models of Scottish shelf waters using the Finite Volume Community Ocean Model (FVCOM). These models have numerous applications such as tracing interactions between wild and fish farmed salmonids and assessing the impact of extracting marine renewable energy on local ecosystems.
In addition, I also manage access to the Scottish Shelf Waters Reanalysis service, which is model output from a 25 year hindcast simulation of the Scottish Shelf Model, run in conjunction with collaborators at the National Oceanography Centre.
