Detailed information on the fieldwork and data processing for the 2015 Scottish Schools Adolescent Lifestyle and Substance Use Survey (SALSUS).

Footnotes

1. For more information about RCS please see http://transformingchildrensfutures.scot/

2. Teachers were asked to complete a Class Response Sheet for each class that participated in the study. These forms collected information on how many pupils were normally in the class, how many were present at the time of survey administration and gave reasons for the absence of any pupils who were not present.

3. Available at: http://www.gov.scot/Topics/Research/by-topic/health-community-care/social-research/SALSUS

4. As the RCS sample was in fact a census, class was not used as a sampling unit and therefore the data was not clustered in the same way as for the main SALSUS sample. The school was used as the cluster variable in the Deft calculations instead.

5. i.e. the standard errors taking into account the Design Effects

6. Type II errors happen if a false null hypothesis is not rejected i.e. failing to detect an effect that is present

7. The final wording is as shown, although the formatting in the final print version may be slightly different.
