NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT)

Denise Thiruchelvam has now taken up the role of NHSBT’s Director of Nursing. Denise has a strong Public Health background and brings with her a wealth of experience that will be valuable to NHSBT. Denise is building her portfolio which will include (but not limited to) Clinical Governance, Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, Professional Development, and complaints.
The NHSBT Board meeting took place in Edinburgh on the 26 September 2023, with a dinner taking place the evening before for colleagues and partners. The NHSBT Chairman, Chief Executive and Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation also met with Minister Jenni Minto and visited the transplant unit in Edinburgh.
UK wide donation and transplantation remains strong and above target, however consent and authorisation rates remain a challenge at the UK level at 61% against a target of 66%.
