Acknowledgment letter

The Mugdock Children’s Home was established in 1933 and closed in 1981 because of reducing numbers of residents. The motivation and purpose of the home was to offer care, support and protection to children at a vulnerable time in their lives. To hear of allegations of inappropriate treatment and possible historical abuse of any kind is deeply concerning and distressing, particularly since these allegations run counter to the founding principles of the home. Currently the Mugdock Children’s Trust acts as a grant giving body and its Trustees offer an unalloyed apology to any former resident who was adversely affected.

The Mugdock Children’s Trust has, since 1981 provided grants of money solely for the support of charities operating in Scotland to the benefit of children in circumstances where they need care and support, including charities addressing abuse and vulnerabilities of all descriptions. The Trust takes part in the Redress Scotland scheme with great sadness but with a clear willingness to offer support to anyone harmed by their stay under the care of the former Children’s Home. We look forward to continuing to support children throughout Scotland in future years.
