Results from the Scottish Agricultural Census: June 2023
Final results from the 2023 June Agricultural Census on land use, crop areas, livestock and the number of people working on agricultural holdings. Estimates for 2022 are published in the supporting documents.

Manure and fertiliser use
Organic fertilisers release nutrients slowly while mineral fertilisers release nutrients more quickly. From those who responded to whether they used mineral or organic fertiliser on their land, 3,200 only applied mineral fertiliser and 1,000 only applied organic fertiliser. Almost half of holdings (46 per cent) used both mineral and organic fertiliser.
Information on organic and mineral fertiliser use was collected from a subset of those responding to the census, 43 per cent of holdings who responded to the census provided this information.
