A National Strategy for Public Space CCTV in Scotland

A national strategy for public space CCTV in Scotland

Appendix 3

Note on Training

The successful use of any CCTV system hinges on the people involved in its operation. In recognition of this, it is essential that those individuals are properly trained, to a uniform common minimum standard. While the technical specifications and capabilities of systems will vary, the legislative context and standards of process outlined in Chapter 2 of the Strategy remain the same.

At present the Home Office is considering the National Occupational Standard for CCTV Operations, authored by Skills for Security. Contingent on Home Office approval, it is recognised that this National Occupational Standard provides a baseline for training that offers the required level of consistency and integrity. As the strategy moves into its implementation phase the identification of bodies able to offer this training within Scotland will be crucial.
