The figures in this section show ELC provision for 1- and 2-year-olds in the local authorities (LAs) selected as case studies. The figures below do not include childminder settings as the Care Inspectorate does not publish age disaggregated data on childminders.

Figure 1: ELC places per child by age group and LA (case studies)
The figure shows the number of ELC places per child in formal group-based settings by age group and local authority, focusing on local authorities for which a case study was developed. 
Scottish Borders: 0.18 places for 1-year-olds, 0.43 for 2-year-olds, 0.76 for 3-year-olds, and 1 for 4-year-olds. 
Glasgow city: 0.31 places for 1-year-olds, 0.56 for 2-year-olds, 0.88 for 3-year-olds, and 0.92 for 4-year-olds. 
Moray: 0.15 places for 1-year-olds, 0.62 for 2-year-olds, 0.83 for 3-year-olds, and 0.97 for 4-year-olds. 
Fife: 0.18 places for 1-year-olds, 0.43 for 2-year-olds, 0.79 for 3-year-olds, and 0.96 for 4-year-olds.

Scottish Borders: 170 places for 1-year-olds, 430 for 2-year-olds, 840 for 3-year-olds, and 1,070 for 4-year-olds. 
Glasgow city: 1,830 places for 1-year-olds, 3,530 for 2-year-olds, 5,420 for 3-year-olds, and 5,890 for 4-year-olds. 
Moray: 130 places for 1-year-olds, 510 for 2-year-olds, 700 for 3-year-olds, and 900 for 4-year-olds. 
Fife: 590 places for 1-year-olds, 1,490 for 2-year-olds, 2,860 for 3-year-olds, and 3,590 for 4-year-olds.
