Homeworking

In Wave 103 the BICS asked businesses about whether they intend to use increased homeworking as a permanent business model going forward.

Figure 2: In the period 19 February to 3 March 2024 (Wave 103), the share of businesses that were using or intended to use increased homeworking as a permanent business model was highest in the Information & Communication (56.0%) and Professional, Scientific & Technical Activities (46.1%) sectors.

Figure 3: Improved staff wellbeing was the most commonly reported reason for using increased homeworking as a permanent businesses model going forward - this was reported by 80.7% of relevant businesses.

In Wave 103, businesses who do not plan to use increased homeworking as a permanent business model going forward, were asked about their reasons for this.

Figure 4: Homeworking not being suitable for the business was the most commonly reported reason for not using increased homeworking as a permanent businesses model going forward - this was reported by 80.1% of relevant businesses.
