Green ICT

One of the drivers for the strategy Scotland’s Digital Future: Delivery of Public Services is to ensure ICT is deployed in an energy-efficient manner and reduces the carbon footprint of Scottish public sector organisations.  In order to achieve this, the end-to-end ICT lifecycle (procurement, operations and disposal) should be considered in all ICT procurement and refresh decisions.

The Scottish Public Sector Green ICT Strategy has been developed to address this.  It includes guidance and best practice examples on how Scottish public sector organisations can contribute to the Scottish Government’s vision for a cost effective, sustainable and energy efficient ICT estate.  The Strategy also includes a workbook that public sector organisations can use to assess effectiveness in reducing carbon emissions.  The workbook will allow ICT professionals to ensure their ICT purchasing decisions are aligned with those of procurement colleagues (which are in turn mandated in legislation and EU Codes of Conduct).
