EPC Guidance

Energy Performance Certificates - examples

Two Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) formats are approved for use in Scotland, one for dwellings, one for all other building types.

These formats are used in the generation of EPCs from data held on the Scottish EPC register and also by Approved Software in situations where the EPC is not required to be generated from the Scottish EPC register. The EPC format changed for Dwelling EPCs on 1 October 2012 and for all other building type EPCs on 28 January 2013.

Examples illustrating the current and previous EPC format are available below.

Current format

Previous format

Note that EPCs for existing dwellings (current and previous format) and EPCs for new buildings (current format only) include a unique Report Reference Number (RRN) which is used to identify and locate the EPC on the Scottish EPC register.
