Educational evidence shows lower participation rates among young people from the most deprived areas compared with those from the least deprived areas. Socio-economic disadvantage continues to be a key factor influencing educational outcomes and future opportunities. In 2025, the proportion of 16–19-year-olds from the 20% most deprived areas of Scotland who were participating was 88.8% compared to 97.2% for those from the 20% least deprived areas ^[9].
