Research shows that 23% of people in households with a disabled person live in poverty (after housing costs), compared to 17% for non-disabled households ^[5]. Families with a disabled person are also more likely to face higher living costs compared to non-disabled families due to additional costs, such as extra-costs for equipment, accessible transport, and energy costs. This has been exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis in which the cost of everyday items has increased ^[6]. Families with disabled children are more likely to experience additional barriers in securing suitable childcare to meet their children’s specific needs ^[7].
