Case studies

The following are examples of projects to receive funding under the Low Carbon Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme. 

Western Villages, Granton, Edinburgh 

Decontamination and redevelopment of a long-term post-industrial site to enable the construction of more than 400 affordable, net zero homes and community green space. 

Dalmarnock Riverside Park, Glasgow 

Transformation of vacant land next to the river Clyde to support the development of a riverside park and new commercial units. 

Kirkintilloch Community Sports Complex 

Redevelopment of a 1.9-hectare site for the creation of a community sports facility and active travel route. 

Levern Water Revival, Barrhead 

Project to turn derelict land near Barrhead town centre into an attractive green space, and re-engineer the Levern Water to reduce flooding risks. 

Lionthorn Bing Greenspace Project, Falkirk 

Project to bring formerly derelict land back into use for the local community through the creation of a community green space with accessible path links. 

Belle Gro’@ The Meat Market, Glasgow 

This project received funding to help develop sustainable food growing as part of the transformation of the abandoned Bellgrove meat market. 

Transforming Avenue End Road Greenspace, Glasgow 

Project to transform vacant and derelict land into a safe, attractive greenspace for the community, while creating new habitat for protected species. 

Clyde Cycle Park 

Project to reclaim more than 8 hectares of derelict land and turn it into a multi-use cycle park 

ONECarluke community growing and learning garden, Carluke 

Redevelopment of Carluke High Mill into a heritage hub with community facilities and a learning garden.
