A Trading Nation - Updating Scotland's Country and Sector Prioritisation
This paper sets out the analytical update to the country and sector priorities underpinning the Scottish Government's export strategy, A Trading Nation. It also provides an update to the methodology used in this analysis.
5. Current Priorities: Country-Sector Matrix
The output from the combined qualitative and quantitative is shown below in Figure 3 – Scotland’s country-sector priority matrix. The letters on each of the colour coding is further explained in more detail in the analytical methodology note, but a key is also provided below. The matrix highlights where there are particular sector opportunities and strengths for each priority market and illustrates the extent to which trading partner countries exhibit potential for future growth in Scottish exports.
Since the initial publication of ATN, the UK has left the European Union and as a result, the UK government has undertaken a number of trade negotiations with partner countries currently prioritised above. A brief overview of the status of the UK trading relationship with selected partner countries is included below in Figure 4.
