Post Assessment Review and sign-off
12. Planning for the review of impact on children’s rights and wellbeing
We will continue to engage with young people through our partner organisation Young Scot, to keep them informed about policy developments and any potential impacts on their rights.
Whilst these regulations will not be reviewed, as they simply make amendments as a consequence of substantive provisions in the 2026 Act, there are plans for the UK Government to review the Tobacco and Vapes Act in January 2032, as set out in the UK impact assessment. The Act also requires the UK Secretary of State to:
- carry out a review of the operation of this Act during the relevant period (4-7 years after Royal Assent), and
- prepare and lay before Parliament a report setting out the conclusions of that review.
The Secretary of State is required to consult the Scottish Ministers in carrying out this review and the Scottish Government will proactively engage with the UKG in connection with this review.
